About the opera
A true romantic comedy, The Elixir of Love tells of the plight of Nemorino and his infatuation with the beautiful and wealthy landowner Adina, who only has eyes for Sergeant Belcore … until Doctor Dulcamara and his love potion offer a solution.
This popular and patriotic production by Simon Phillips, set in the Australian outback with all its colour and vibrancy, is the perfect complement to Donizetti’s intoxicating score which contains some of the most wonderful melodies in opera.
Much-loved soprano Hye Seoung Kwon returns to perform the role of Adina, with Virgilio Marino as the lovestruck Nemorino, joined by José Carbó as Sergeant Belcore and John Bolton Wood as Doctor Dulcamara.
