Puccini’s saga of love, jealousy and murder opens on Saturday Night

Opera Queensland brings its 2011 season to a close with John Copley’s critically acclaimed production of Tosca which opens on Saturday night, 15 October at the Lyric Theatre for a six-performance season. Copley’s traditional interpretation of Puccini’s great Italian tragedy sets the drama against the backdrop of Rome in the 1800s at a time when Napoleon was poised for victory.

Chris Mangin resigns from Opera Queensland

After 14 years at the head of Opera Queensland as Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Chris Mangin will step aside at the end of January 2012 to make way for a new appointment. Mr Mangin will be rekindling his own company helping to develop and strengthen performing arts and other not-for-profit organisations as well as undertaking a range of special projects.

Puccini's saga of love, jealousy and murder returns to the Lyric Theatre

Space Encounters takes off for its 2011 Season

Opera Queensland’s chamber opera Space Encounters for young audiences Prep to Year 7, enters its second year of touring, kicking off its 2011 season next week. Between 18 July and 11 November, Space Encounters will be staged in 70 schools throughout the Brisbane metropolitan area, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, South West Queensland and the New South Wales border region.

Waltzing Our Matilda waltzes across Queensland

Waltzing Our Matildacharmed audiences in Brisbane and on tour throughout the state in 2009. Opera Queensland remounts this delightful production for its 2011 Season for one Brisbane show, after which time the production will tour with performances in Redlands, Roma, Chinchilla, Stanthorpe, Warwick, Gympie, Ipswich, the Gold Coast and Logan.

Mozart's comic romp set to delight Brisbane audiences – opens tomorrow night

Opera Queensland’s mid-year production of Mozart’s delightful comedy Così fan tutte opens tomorrow night, 9 July at the Conservatorium Theatre, South Bank for a 10-performance season. Leading a wonderful cast of Australian artists, Re-Study Director David Berthold weaves his own creative vision into this renewed interpretation of   production of 2000.

Opera Queensland’s Chief Executive/Artistic Director Chris Mangin, regretfully announces that owing to illness, Julian Gavin is forced to withdraw from the company’s upcoming production of The Girl of the Golden West. “Julian has been battling a serious illness since the start of this year,” said Mr Mangin.

An ideal teaching tool and a fantastic introduction to opera and musical theatre

Space Encounters
A new children’s opera created especially for primary school students, was launched in Term 3 this year. Between July and September, some 10,000 students from 35 schools in South East Queensland were entertained by the enthralling production which was created by two of Australia’s leading creative artists, Brisbane-based conductor Sean O’Boyle and renowned film and television writer, actor and director Ian McFadyen.
